Five major scandals the media isn't obsessing...
think-progress: Are these things more important than edits to talking points? Judge for yourself. 1. Carbon pollution reaches historic highs, threatening human existence 2. The devastating impact of sequestration on kids, cancer patients and first responders. 3. Massive cuts to food stamps for the most vulnerable. 4. 1,100 workers die in a Bangladesh factory collapse, and American retailers...

Well I’m home for the summer. I don’t really know what I’m doing tomorrow or this week or this summer for sure yet, but I’m still happy and feeling comfortable here. I can deal with being a direction-less college student on break for awhile.

Chris Christie
I am no fan of the New Jersey governor, but I’m also pretty tired of people making fun of him for his weight. There is plenty to criticize from a substantive, policy-based perspective, and so to sink to that line of attack is not only lazy but also insidious, enforcing destructive societal body image standards. Please stop doing it.

Robert Reich: The Flaccid Jobs Report  →
robertreich: We remain in the gravitational pull of the Great Recession. The Labor Department reports that 165,000 new jobs were created in April – below the average gains of 183,000 in the previous three months. We can’t achieve escape velocity. Since mid-2010, the three-month rolling average of job gains hasn’t dipped below 100,000 but has exceeded 250,000 jobs just twice. This isn’t enough to...

I go home in a little less than two weeks and I have what I think are understandable concerns about being busy enough, making money, and in general adjusting back to living at home again (after I finish the thousand and one things I have to do before getting out of here next Wednesday morning). But I do not understand at all my friends who are just finishing freshman year and are staying for the...

No charges for NYPD cops filmed punching,... →
stfuconservatives: Two New York City Police officers will not face charges after the Manhattan District Attorney decided that widely circulated videos of them punching and pepper-spraying protesters amounted to insufficient evidence that they had done so. Today in “business as usual for the U.S. judicial system.” #usausa

Rachel Maddow spoke at my school today and it rocked. She is so cool and funny and charming and good at working the audience. One of the few times I wasn’t furious about how much my family pays in tuition and fees.
